Winnipeg Jets Re-Sign Depth Defenseman Ben Chiarot
The Winnipeg Jets Have Announced the Signing of Defenseman Ben Chiarot to a New Two-Year Contract Worth $2.8 Million.
The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed bottom pair defenseman Ben Chiarot to a new two-year deal worth $2.8 million with an annual average of $1.4 million. The former 2009 fourth round pick of the then Atlanta Thrashers has spent his whole pro career with the Thrashers/Jets organizations.

Chiarot began his pro career in 2009-10 when he appeared in a single game for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, who were owned by the Thrashers at that time. But he wouldn't return until two years after in 2011-12 when he joined the St. John's IceCaps. Ben would go on to spend two seasons with the IceCaps putting up 14 points in 79 games.
But in 2013-14 he'd finally see NHL ice time with Winnipeg despite it only being for one game as he'd spend the rest of the season down in the AHL. 2014-15 was much of the same for the defenseman but in 2015-16 he finally broke through and became a regular that season seeing 70 games and adding 10 points. Last year he posted career highs in the NHL with two goals and 10 assists for 12 points in 59 games.
He's a prototypical depth defenseman who plays his role extremely well, and for the amount he's being paid is also quite the bargain for the Jets. Now if he can reach the 20 point plateau this season, the Jets should get an A+ for re-signing him.
