NEW YORK (AP) Minnesota Wild defenseman Marco Scandella has been fined by the NHL for an illegal check to the head of St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie.

The hit occurred in the first period of their game on Saturday, when Scandella was assessed a minor penalty. The punishment was announced by the league on Monday. Scandella must pay $2,755.38, the maximum amount allowable by the collective bargaining agreement.

Scandella signed a five-year, $20 million contract extension last week.
