What game is Doc Emrick calling this week?
Everyone loves to listen to Doc Emrick serenade with his broadcasting, but which game will he be doing the first week of the 2016-17 NHL season?
Hockey fans all across the world love to listen to Doc Emrick provide play by play for NHL games. He’s the best in the business and is a huge reason why NHL on NBCSN is one of the most popular weekly hockey broadcasts in the world. Emrick, sadly, doesn’t do too many games in his old age. In fact, he only does one game per week.
If fans want to hear Emrick say “waffle-boarded” and wax poetic about hockey, they can tune into NHL on NBCSN on Wed. Oct. 12. According to the St. Louis Dispatch, he will be the play by play announcer for the Opening Night battle between the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks.
Emrick will be joined by Eddie Olczyk, who will be doing the color commentary. The duo are one of the best in all of broadcasting. Their chemistry is second to none and they play off each other very well. Emrick has an endless thesaurus when it comes to describing the action on the ice while Olczyk offers great insight.
The Blues and Blackhawks will be playing each other for the first time since their epic first round series. Both teams will look a bit different from the last time they faced each other. Former Blues goaltender Brian Elliott is now with the Calgary Flames, while Troy Brouwer is with the Flames and David Backes is with the Boston Bruins.
Meanwhile, the Blackhawks no longer have Teuvo Teravainen or Bryan Bickell. Both players are now with the Carolina Hurricanes. Andrew Shaw, a noted Blues adversary, is now with the Montreal Canadiens. Despite the changes, both teams are contenders.
