Watch: Ovie loses and retrieves stick before snapping home goal No. 34

Goal No. 34 didn’t come easily for Alex Ovechkin.

The Washington Capitals winger, who leads the league in goals scored by a large margin, added to his ever-growing highlight reel with a nifty tally against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night.

Halfway through the third period, Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik slashed Ovechkin’s stick out of his hands as Ovechkin was skating through the slot. After looking confused — or looking for a whistle — for a moment, Ovechkin quickly recovered, picked up his stick and blasted a one-timer past Marc-Andre Fleury to give the Caps a 3-2 lead.

The Capitals couldn’t hang on to their lead, though, and the Pens went on to win 4-3.
