Washington rewards Baltimore fans with game

The Washngton Capitals will open their exhibition schedule in Baltimore next season.

The Capitals will host the Nashville Predators in the Baltimore Hockey Classic at 1st Mariner Arena on Sept. 20.

Team president Dick Patrick said Monday the team scheduled the game to reward the strong support the franchise receives from fans in the Charm City.

Baltimore was home to the Capitals' American Hockey League affiliate — the Skipjacks — from 1988 to 1993.

The Capitals earned the Eastern Conference's top seed for the playoffs and open Wendesday at home against the No. 8 seed New York Rangers.
