Can the Washington Capitals slow down the Kings?
Fresh off a win in Montreal on Saturday, the Washington Capitals head back to Verizon Center to host the Los Angels Kings Sunday. It will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams. Washington has reeled off impressive wins over Eastern Conference foes Montreal and Boston in its last two games.
The Caps have been getting scoring from every line to go with solid goaltending by Braden Holtby. In the win over the Canadiens, Jay Beagle, Daniel Winnik, Brett Connolly, Matt Niskanen, Tom Wilson, and Andre Burakovsky all provided points. Connolly, Niskanen and Wilson also registered points against the Bruins as well.
Aside from the secondary scoring, Washington has of course been getting production from stars like Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.
With Holtby playing against Montreal on Saturday, expect to see backup Philipp Grubauer between the pipes against the Kings.
LA was in Philadelphia Saturday for a matinee tilt with the Flyers. They won a hard-fought overtime game when former Flyer Jeff Carter scored in the extra frame.
The Kings are on their current win streak after losing four straight games. Three of the current five wins have come against Eastern Conference, including New Jersey and Carolina, who rank near the bottom of the conference.
Washington has done very well against teams from the Western Conference this season, posting an overall record of 11-2.
NBC will carry the game between the Caps and Kings to a national audience at 12:00 p.m.
