Vancouver Canucks: Sedins, Eriksson Clicking for Team Sweden

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Vancouver Canucks fans, you can officially get excited for the new, all-Swedish top line!

If there is one thing that really has Vancouver Canucks fans excited for the upcoming year, it is the new, all-Swedish top line. While just about every media outlet predicts the Canucks to finish the 2016-17 season at least as bad as the last, we are all just happy to have Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin and Loui Eriksson back together.

Now the best part: it’s like they were never apart.

Since the 2016 World Cup of Hockey is the biggest money grabber of all time, the NHL made sure they had some interesting match-ups in pre-tournament action. So, they let Canada play the USA twice and did the same thing with Sweden and Finland. Then, there is obviously the actual tournament where these match-ups will come up once again.

I could rant about this forever, but that’s not what I’m here for. So far, Sweden has scored four goals in two games versus Finland (though the second one isn’t over yet), and the Sedin-Sedin-Eriksson line scored three of them.

It all started in game one:

It sure wasn’t pretty, but the line constantly produced offence and eventually got rewarded — I’m fine with that. A pass in front of the net led to a scoring chance for Eriksson, who missed on the first attempt but was able to bury the rebound from a difficult angle.

Today, Eriksson was able to strike once more, this time on a set-up from Henrik, on a five-on-three power play:

Again, nothing fancy. Just a simple pass in front of the net that Eriksson only had to tip in. You know, the kind of pass Henrik Sedin likes to play that often leads to goals.

But this wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t have an Eriksson goal assisted by both Sedins for you as well. We do, and it is right here:

With Henrik and Daniel on the ice, we don’t even need Eriksson to make any fancy plays or laser shots. Tip-ins work just fine. On the power play, anyway.

But, this also shows that my idea to only have the three together on the man advantage, while playing Eriksson with Bo Horvat and Sven Baertschi on even strength, might not be all that bad. The Sedins worked well enough with Jannik Hansen to give it another try, creating a second dangerous scoring line.

The score in game two is 2-0 after the first, of course all scored by the all-Canucks top line. If (or should I say when?) the trio scores even more goals, we will keep you updated here!
