United States wins world junior 'A' challenge

Eamonn McDermott also scored and Eric Mihalik made 28 saves for the United States, the winner of the 19-and-under tournament for the second straight year.

"It was one heck of a hockey game," U.S. coach Mark Carlson said. "Eric Mihalik was tremendous for us in net and it was a gutsy, gutsy win."

Kellen Jones scored for Canada West.

Russia beat Canada East, 6-2, in the third-place game.
