Toronto's Ranger has sore neck, no concussion

TORONTO (AP) Maple Leafs defenseman Paul Ranger has a sore neck but no concussion after hitting his head on the glass.

Ranger didn't participate in Toronto's practice Friday but went on the ice for a team photo. Toronto coach Randy Carlyle says Ranger wasn't treated for a concussion.

Ranger's head struck the glass on a hit from Tampa Bay Lightning's Alex Killorn. He remained on the ice for seven minutes before leaving on a stretcher.

He was released from a Toronto hospital Wednesday night after the Leafs' 5-3 loss.

Ranger says he immediately felt neck pain after the hit and went into ''preservation mode.''

The 29-year-old Ranger says he's thankful the injury wasn't worse.
