Toronto Maple Leafs: Shameful Media Scrum For Matthews

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

After scoring four goals in a 5-4 overtime loss, a media member decided to ask Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews the dumbest question ever.

In a poor attempt at comedy – and perhaps a little salty that Matthews is a Toronto Maple Leafs player – a media member asked Auston Matthews possibly the dumbest question on earth.

Whoever that is should have their media pass revoked, because that was a question a two year old would ask.

The Leafs superstar rookie notched four goals in a 5-4 loss. He took responsibility on a night that he never should have had to. He definitely didn’t deserve to be asked a ridiculous question like that.

Here are the facts from the game:

    Auston Matthews was tremendous.

    The Leafs dominated the play.

    Frederik Andersen struggled.

The parade is a salty narrative made up by opposing fanbases that doesn’t really exist.

Leafs fans were simply – and rightfully so – displaying their excitement, in the stands, on social media and around the world.

To Matthews credit, he displayed no emotion. He didn’t entertain the question and he didn’t give the shameful media member the satisfaction of creating a story.

Auston Matthews is a superstar. He scored four goals in his first NHL game. He’s going to struggle, he’s going to succeed.

The Leafs understand the process and are committed to the rebuild, and so are the fans. Asking these types of questions only makes the “journalist” look like a fool.

After a long awaited arrival, welcome to the Toronto Maple Leafs and everything that comes with it, Auston. It isn’t pretty and it probably never will be, but there are certainly going to be more dumb questions to come.
