Toronto Maple Leafs Acting As A Player Conditioning Facility
The Toronto Maple Leafs already had Brandon Prust hanging around keeping in shape and now they’ve added a goaltender to that short list.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have Karri Ramo practicing with the club according to Pierre LeBrun.
Karri Ramo was one of the worst goaltenders at even strength last season, so there won’t be many teams looking for his services.
The Leafs can’t sign anyone else now because they are at the 50 contract limit, so Prust and Ramo will remain extra practice bodies unless the team makes a trade.
There hasn’t been any connection made between a pending trade and either of the two players though. What the Leafs do have is Jhonas Enroth who may be an interesting comodity given the goaltender market and the salaries of available goaltenders around the league as we move closer to the expansion draft by the day.
Some of those could include Ondrej Pavelec, Jaroslav Halak, Marc-Andre Fleury, Ben Bishop and Jimmy Howard. None of those goaltenders are in the same ballpark of cheap as Jhonas Enroth – which is what teams will be looking for, cheap.
Again, there’s nothing floating around the online rumor mill, but the Leafs should be shopping Enroth at some point this year before he departs in the off-season.
The Leafs should be happy that Alan Walsh isn’t any of their goaltenders agents, though, because he doesn’t take too kindly to goalies thieving his clients practice time.
It’s likely nothing of any meaning, but it’s interesting that the Leafs are just entertaining players with no value as practice bodies when they have a good roster that would be fine working on things by themselves.
