Time-lapse video sorts out NHL's 97-year evolution, logo changes

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 9:36 p.m. ET

The NHL has expanded greatly over the past 97 years.

Since its inception, the NHL has changed from a tiny league in eastern Canada to one that encompasses 30 teams throughout both Canada and the United States. A number of teams have made multiple changes to their logos and moved to different cities, while some have even disbanded all together.

Nothing captured the evolution of the league over nearly a century better than a unique project created by graphic designer Ann Frazier. Frazier uses a time-lapse video to show the NHL from its beginning in 1917 to the present in 2014, detailing all of the expansion and logo changes over that time period.
