The Winnipeg Jets gave a touching tribute to late, beloved superfan
Before the Winnipeg Jets kicked off their season on Thursday night, they felt it was necessary to recognize and honor the life of Len Kropioski.
Kropioski, or "Kroppy," was one of the Jets most dedicated and beloved supporters. After the World War II veteran was shown smiling and saluting on the jumbotron for the first time during the 2011-2012 season in Winnipeg, it quickly became tradition for the MTS Centre to show him at nearly every game.
Last spring, as he battled an illness, Kroppy returned to the arena and Winnipeg fans welcomed him back in emotional fashion.
Kroppy passed away at the age of 98 in September and the Jets knew immediately that they needed to find a way to celebrate his life and address his absence.
On Thursday, they did it in spectacular fashion. Not only did the team show a video clip of Kroppy prior to the game, but they also brought a parade of the Branch 12 colour party onto the ice and played a touching rendition of the Last Post before two minutes of silence.
With the arena lights turned off, a spotlight illuminated Kroppy's vacant seat. It was a spectacular way to honor a beloved fan whose presence will be missed amongst the Winnipeg faithful.
