Tavares models Islanders' black-and-white third jersey
The New York Islanders will indeed feature a black-and-white third jersey this season.
The Islanders' official Twitter account confirmed the change in color scheme by having captain John Tavares pose in his new duds. The jersey eschews the map of Long Island on the chest and replaces the geography with "NY", with the latter letter resembling a hockey stick.
Speculation of the shift to adopt the colors of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets ran rampant earlier this month when photos of the jersey were leaked online by SportsLogos.net.
The Islanders have had several memorable - or regrettable - third-jersey choices in their history, from the dreaded "Fisherman" fiasco of the mid-1990s to the bright orange sweaters from 2002-07.
