Tampa's Bishop shines despite spotlight on Price

The talk around the NHL this season has consistently been about how great Montreal goalie Carey Price is, but Tampa's Ben Bishop is making quite a name for himself in the head-to-head meetings between him and Price.

Bishop and the Lightning are 8-0 against the Canadiens this season, and it has been Bishop who stymied offenses this series, not Price. Bishop also holds a better save percentage than Price so far in the playoffs, as Bishop stands at .937 while Price boasts a .920 save percentage.

One of the most key games for Bishop in this series was Game 3, as the Canadiens were desperate to save their season and Tampa lagged in puck possession. The Canadiens had the ice heavily tilted in their favor in the second period when Tampa mustered just three shots on net, but Bishop held Montreal off the board to further frustrate Montreal. The only goal Montreal scored all night came on a third rebound attempt at the top of the crease, a tough position for any goalie to make a save.

"He’s been big ever since he got here for us and in the playoffs he just keeps getting better,’’ Tampa Bay forward Tyler Johnson told The Tampa Tribune. “That’s a scary thing because he’s an extraordinary goalie. He’s been awesome, a backstop for us when we are not playing as well as we should. We kind of rely on him too much sometimes, but he’s there for us."
