Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos will be held out of Canada's first game in the second round at the hockey world championships on Friday because of a possible concussion.
Stamkos, who had two goals and an assist in three opening-round games, injured his jaw when he collided with Switzerland defenseman Timo Heibling in a 4-1 loss Wednesday night.
Team Canada will keep Stamkos off the ice for several days as a precaution. Team officials will reevaluate the 20-year-old after he does some light bike riding on Friday.
Canada is seeking its first title at worlds since 2007 and 25th overall. In the second round, Canada will face Sweden, Norway and the Czech Republic.
