SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) San Jose Sharks coach Peter DeBoer has officially named Martin Jones his starting goaltender for Game 1 of the playoffs against the Los Angeles Kings.
DeBoer said Tuesday that Jones will start the opener and he will take it game by game after that with backup James Reimer.
Jones had a strong season in his first year as a starter. He won 37 games and had a 2.27 goals against average as he proved he could handle a heavy workload. Backup James Reimer had three shutouts in eight starts after being acquired from Toronto before the trade deadline.
Jones has never started in the playoffs. He played two games as a backup for the Kings in 2014 when they won the Stanley Cup. Now he gets to face his old teammates.
