Sakic quietly built an amazing legacy

The announcement today by long-time Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic of his retirement marks not only the end of one of the greatest careers in NHL history but also the end of an era for the Avalanche.

Sakic began his NHL career in 1988-89 when the Avalanche were still the Quebec Nordiques and would spend his entire 20-season career with the team.
