Sabres, Sens swap 7 players in minor league trade

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Buffalo Sabres have traded minor league forwards Jason Akeson and Phil Varone and defenseman Jerome Leduc to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for minor leaguers Alex Guptill, Eric O'Dell, Cole Schneider and Michael Sdao.

The teams announced the deal on Saturday night. The NHL trade deadline is Monday at 3 p.m. EST.

Schneider had 17 goals and 42 points in 54 games with Binghamton of the AHL with this season. O'Dell had 18 goals and 37 points in 50 games.

Guptill has spent time in both the AHL and ECHL this season, with a combined 24 points in 41 games played. Sdao, the only defenseman in the group, had a plus-4 rating in 17 games for Binghamton.

Varone has played 42 of his NHL games with the Sabres, including five this season. Akeson played all 15 of his NHL games with Philadelphia. Leduc, a defenseman, has yet to play in the NHL.
