Sabres forward Hecht has surgery on finger

Published Apr. 15, 2010 12:47 p.m. ET

Buffalo Sabres forward Jochen Hecht has had surgery on his injured left pinkie and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff says Hecht will be ``out for weeks instead of days.'' The announcement Thursday comes on the day Buffalo opens its Eastern Conference quarterfinal playoff series against the Boston Bruins.

Hecht missed the final three games of the regular season because of the injury, but had practiced the last two days. After the finger was examined Wednesday, it was determined surgery was needed.

Rookie Tyler Ennis is taking Hecht's spot in the lineup. Ennis played the final nine games of the regular season and had two goals and six assists.
