Report: Staal rejects 10-year deal

BY foxsports • June 21, 2012

Pittsburgh Penguins center Jordan Staal has turned down a 10-year offer to remain with the team, The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported, citing sources.

The 23-year-old, entering a final year of a four-year $16 million contract, has told team officials he is willing to sign with the Carolina Hurricanes if the team can organize a trade. Staal would become an unrestricted free-agent at the end of next season if no deal was made.

While terms of the 10-year offer were not disclosed, the contract extension was reportedly worth around $60 million.

"My only comments will be that Jordan is not prepared to enter into a contract extension at this time," Staal's agent, Paul Krepelka, told the Tribune-Review.

Staal's brother Eric is a prospect already playing in the Hurricanes system.
