Report: Kevin Shattenkirk expected to miss at least one game with injury

Published Oct. 15, 2015 4:39 p.m. ET

Kevin Shattenkirk ramped up his offseason training in the past two years, but it looks like the defenseman will be forced to miss games due to injury for the second time in as many seasons.

Shattenkirk left Monday's practice early due to a lower-body injury and played in Tuesday's game against the Flames, but he was pulled from the game after tweaking the injury again.

Shattenkirk did not participate in an optional practice Wednesday, and coach Ken Hitchcock was not confident about the defenseman's availability for Thursday's game against the Oilers.

"Shatty probably will not play in Edmonton,” Hitchcock told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “We didn’t practice him ... just precautionary-wise. We’ll see here in the next few days how he turns out."

Hitchcock told reporters this injury is not related to the torn abdominal muscles Shattenkirk suffered last season. In Shattenkirk's absence, rookie Colton Parayko has a chance to move up on the depth chart after impressing coaches with two goals in Tuesday's game against the Flames.
