Report: Devils, city of Newark headed for court

Published Jun. 16, 2010 1:00 a.m. ET

The New Jersey Devils and the city of Newark are heading to court to settle a dispute over rent at Prudential Center, The New York Post said Wednesday, citing a local report.

The dispute involves the amount of parking revenue the hockey team receives, and back rent it owes, according to the report in the Newark-Star Ledger

The Devils withheld $5.7 million in rent payments since 2008 due to various complaints and had agreed to a settlement of that debt.

Instead, the Housing Authority withdrew a parking revenue sharing deal that guaranteed the Devils $2.7 million annually.

Now the two sides will have the matters settled in state Superior Court.
