NEW YORK (AP) The New York Rangers have agreed to terms on an entry-level contract with college free agent defenseman John Gilmour.
The 23-year-old Gilmour had nine goals and 14 assists last season at Providence, and his 16 power-play points ranked fifth among NCAA defensemen. He recorded 22 goals and 43 assists in 141 games at Providence over the past four years, helping the Friars win the national title in 2014-15.
Gilmour was a seventh-round pick of the Flames in 2013. He became a free agent Tuesday when Calgary didn't sign the 198th overall pick to a contract.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Montreal native is eligible to play in the NHL with the Rangers or with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.
