Quenneville misses game vs. Wild
Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville remains hospitalized after suffering gastrointestinal bleeding, the team said Thursday.
The Stanley Cup-winning coach was absent from the Blackhawks' bench Wednesday night as the team defeated Minnesota 3-1. He was replaced by assistant coach Mike Haviland.
"He has been stabilized and today the cause of the bleeding was determined to be a small ulcer caused by aspirin," the Blackhawks announced in a statement.
"At the appropriate time, we will update everyone regarding his release from the hospital and return to the Blackhawks bench." The team said Quenneville is expected to be released within the next few days.
According to a Versus reporter, the 52-year-old Quenneville was in "good spirits" Wednesday and had expected to be back with the team Friday night against Columbus.
"Joel presented severe discomfort late last night at his home in suburban Chicago," head team physician Dr. Michael Terry said Wednesday in a statement.
