Published Feb. 28, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Chris Phillips is staying in Ottawa.

The veteran defenseman, who has played all 925 games in his career with the Senators, has signed a three-year, $9.25 million extension.

He'll earn $2.75 million next season and $3.25 million each of the following years.

There has been speculation that Phillips might be on the move, given the slumping team's shuffling recently. But the team and player opted for a contact extension.
