The Philadelphia Flyers rookies won a rookie game matchup 4-0 against the Islanders, while a few Flyers players keep up in World Cup action

Flyers Rookies Win

The Philadelphia Flyers rookies went up to Long Island yesterday for a matchup with New York Islanders rookies. After a slow start for both teams, the Flyers’ rookies beat the Islanders’ rookies 4-0.

“To me what stood out was that the team settled in and got better and more sound in all areas of the game in each period throughout the game. That’s what you want to see,” said Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol.

Up front, the team was headlined by top prospect Travis Konecny playing with juniors teammate Anthony Salinitri. Indeed, the duo opened the game’s scoring.

Back in net, Flyers’ offseason signing Alex Lyon played the first half of the game, before being spelled by 2016 first round pick Carter Hart.

The rookie portion of the Philadelphia Flyers training camp wraps this morning. The full camp with all veterans begins on Friday.

Ghost Key Player in Thrilling North America game

The thrill ride that is the North America U-23 World Cup kept delivering as promised. The youngsters came out flying, scoring only 30 seconds into the game. The game ultimately turned into a tight affair, delivering a thrilling overtime finish. Don’t miss highlights from this one.

Of particular note to Flyers fans is that Shayne Gostisbehere delivered 3 assists for North America. The 3 assists gives Ghost 4 points in the 3 official tournament games, tying him for the tournament lead with some random guys you’ve probably never heard of; Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Johnny Gaudreau, and Matt Duchene.

Giroux Returns to the Ice

Flyers captain Claude Giroux has been a periphery player for the powerful Canadian team from the start. After picking up a knock in the World Cup warmup games, Giroux has been the team’s extra forward.

With a spot in the next round already clinched, Canada decided to rest a few players. As Ryan Getzlaf took a seat in last night’s game against Team Europe, Giroux got a chance. In this game, Giroux played on an effective line with John Tavares and Steven Stamkos, although they did not score.
