Perry replaces injured Carter for Canada at World Cup
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) Canada's Jeff Carter will miss the World Cup of Hockey because of a lower-body injury.
Anaheim Ducks captain Corey Perry replaces the Los Angeles Kings forward on Canada's roster for the tournament that begins Sept. 17 in Toronto.
Hockey Canada announced Friday that Carter withdrew with a lower-body injury that's being assessed on a day-to-day basis. General manager Doug Armstrong praised Carter for stepping aside because he wasn't 100 percent.
Carter and Perry were teammates on the 2014 Sochi Olympics team that went undefeated and won the gold medal. Perry did not make the initial roster along with Ducks linemate Ryan Getzlaf, with whom he's expected to be paired again by coach Mike Babcock at the World Cup.
Perry helped Canada win the 2016 world hockey championship.
