Panthers sign Booth to professional tryout contract
David Booth is trying to prove that one can go home again.
The Florida Panthers announced that they were bringing the veteran left wing to training camp on a professional tryout on Wednesday. The 30-year-old Booth was selected by Florida with a second-round pick (53rd overall) in the 2004 draft and spent his first six years in the league with the Panthers.
Booth reportedly wept upon learning that he had been traded to the Vancouver Canucks in 2011 along with Steve Reinprecht and a third-round pick for Mikael Samuelsson and Marco Sturm. After limited success in British Columbia, Booth collected seven goals and six assists in 59 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season.
Booth, who was born in Michigan, has scored 120 goals and set up 111 others in 502 career contests with the Canucks, Maple Leafs and Panthers.
