Panthers G Montoya leaves game against Wild after
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Florida goalie Al Montoya left Sunday's game in Minnesota with an upper-body injury after a collision in the first period.
Aided by a push from Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad, Minnesota's Marco Scandella ran into the goalie with his elbow striking Montoya on the chin 7:25 into the game. Montoya immediately fell to the ice and left after a few minutes of assistance by a team trainer. The team said he will not return.
Scandella was given a penalty for goaltender interference.
Montoya, who had allowed just one goal in eight of his previous 15 starts this season, allowed an early score to Charlie Coyle and finished with three saves. Entering the game, Montoya's 1.91 goals-against average and .930 save percentage were career bests.
Roberto Luongo took over in goal for Florida. He has struggled mightily at the Xcel Energy Center, going 3-10-3 with a 3.33 goals-against average, .880 save percentage and one shutout in 16 starts, mostly with Vancouver.
