Ovechkin unhappy, but still supportive

Published Nov. 2, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Two-time league MVP Alex Ovechkin says he was upset when he was left on the bench for the final moments of regulation in the Washington Capitals' come-from-behind 5-4 win over Anahiem.

However, Ovechkin says he also understands why coach Bruce Boudreau did it.

Boudreau sent out another line — without Ovechkin — after pulling the goalie with a one-goal deficit in Tuesday night's game. The Capitals tied the score in the final minute of the third period, then won it in overtime.

Boudreau says he was playing a hunch and that it's part of a season-long theme of making everyone more accountable.

Ovechkin says he hasn't been left on the bench in such a crucial situation since he was a ''little kid.'' But he says the other players deserved to be out there because they were playing well.
