Mark Osiecki (oh-SICK'-ee) was announced Saturday as Ohio State's new men's ice hockey head coach.

The top assistant at Wisconsin the last six years, Osiecki replaces John Markell, who was fired after last season.

Osiecki also served as head coach and general manager of the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League for seven seasons.

A former Wisconsin defenseman, he was taken in the NHL draft by the Calgary Flames and also played with the Ottawa Senators, Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota North Stars before a wrist injury ended his six-year career.

He helped coach the Badgers to the NCAA championship game this season and also was on the staff when they won the title in 2006.
