NHL set to build outdoor rink for Kings-Sharks game
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) The weather already presented its first hurdle to the NHL in building an ice rink for California's second outdoor hockey game.
The NHL's specialized 53-foot mobile refrigeration unit was forced to be re-routed on its more than four-day trip from Toronto to Santa Clara. The truck traveled south to Texas and Los Angeles before driving up to the Bay Area because of the threat of snow that could have shut down mountain passes.
But the truck still arrived as scheduled on Monday and the process of building the rink at Levi's Stadium for the game Feb. 21 between the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks.
The first outdoor game in warm California went off successfully last year when the Kings and Anaheim Ducks played at Dodger Stadium.
