Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:35 a.m. ET

CHICAGO (AP) The Washington Capitals have activated center Jay Beagle from long-term injured reserve and placed defenseman John Carlson on long-term injured reserve.

Beagle had hand surgery in December. The 30-year-old has six goals and six assists in 36 games after setting career highs with 10 goals and 10 assists last season.

Also, center Brooks Laich cleared waivers and is in the lineup for Sunday's game at Chicago.

Carlson has a lower-body injury that is expected to keep him out three to four weeks.
