Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:01 p.m. ET

NHL Entry Draft: With the NHL Entry Draft Just Right Around the Corner, We're Going to do A Mock Draft to See Exactly Who Falls Where and Who Suits Them Best, This Time the Second Round!

The NHL Entry Draft is just three months away which gives everyone a bunch of time to speculate on who their favorite team is going to select in the first round, but this time we're doing the second round. With this year not being as deep as the years of yesterday, there are still some top notch guys available.

In this second round mock draft, I'm keeping the same order as the first round, and adjusting teams to their respective slots that they achieved through trade.

The Boston Bruins second-round pick will go to New Jersey in the Lee Stempniak deal in 2016.
The Calgary Flames second-round pick will go to Ottawa in the Curtis Lazar deal in 2017.
The Edmonton Oilers second round pick will go to Boston as compensation for Edmonton hiring Peter Chiarelli.
The Minnesota Wild's second-round pick will go to Buffalo from the Chris Stewart deal in 2015.
The New York Rangers second-round pick will go to Carolina for the Eric Staal deal in 2016.
The Ottawa Senators second pick will go to Toronto for the Dion Phaneuf deal in 2016.
The Pittsburgh Penguins second-round pick will go to Carolina for the Ron Hainsey deal in 2017.
The San Jose Sharks second-round pick will go to Toronto for the Roman Polak deal in 2016.
The Washington Capitals second-round pick will go to Montreal for the Lars Eller deal in 2016.

So let's dive into the mock draft and see who lands where! I will also have a full second round mock coming soon!

Tyler Steenbergen

LW, Swift Current (WHL)

In the first round, we had selected Nikita Popugaev to help add some depth on the Blackhawks the left side, so why not add more with Tyler Steenbergen who is fresh off a 90 point campaign in the WHL.30

Jonas Rondbjerg

RW, Vaxjo (SWE J-20)

Originally an Ottawa selection, Toronto acquired this pick when they sent Dion Phaneuf over to the Sens. Late in the first round we had Toronto selecting Matthew Strome to help the left side, selecting Jonas Rondbjerg will help compliment that as he can help bolster the right.29

Cale Fleury

D, Kootenay (WHL)

In round one, Columbus selected C Elias Pettersson to help down the middle. So now we have them selecting Cale Fleury to do the same for the defense.28

David Farrance

D, USA NTDP (USHL)

Originally a San Jose pick, the Leafs second of three second-round choices acquired in the deal that sent Roman Polak to the Sharks last season. With Toronto moving past defensive prospects to new teams, it would be smart to once again fill the cupboard. And why not start with David Farrance.27

Noel Hoefenmayer

D, Ottawa (OHL)

A pick that was supposed to go to the Oilers now belongs to the Bruins as compensation for the hiring of Peter Chiarelli. In the first round, Boston had one pick and that was Klim Kostin, so in this second round, we have them selecting the Ottawa 67's high flying offensive defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer.26

Maxim Zhukov

G, Green Bay (USHL)

Originally the Washington pick, Montreal acquired this selection when they dealt away Lars Eller. Now with Charlie Lindgren that only solid goalie prospect in the Habs organization, it would be smart to go out and select another.

Nick Henry

RW, Regina (WHL)

With the Habs first pick of the second round, they would be smart to select the highly skilled right winger in Nick Henry. Who is fresh off an 81 point season in the WHL, something Montreal needs on the right side.24

Cayden Primeau

G, Lincoln (USHL)

With Toronto already selecting a defenseman, a left winger, and a right winger, why not go out and select a goaltender. And a very solid one at that, since either Garret Sparks or Antoine Bibeau will be with the big club next season the Leafs could use another goaltending prospect and Cayden Primeau is a solid selection.23

Antoine Morand

C, Acadie-Bathurst (QMJHL)

Originally a Calgary Flames draft choice, the Sens acquired this pick in the Curtis Lazar deal. Now when you lose a top prospect in a trade, it's not all that bad since you can go out and get another. And Antoine Morand is that guy.22

Dylan Samberg

D, Hermantown (USHSW)

A pick that belonged to the Minnesota Wild now belongs to the Buffalo Sabres when they dealt away Chris Stewart in 2015. In the first round, Buffalo had one pick and that was center Martin Necas, in the second round with their second choice we have them adding a defensive piece in Dylan Samberg.21

Markus Phillips

D, Owen Sound (OHL)

The third of three second-round choices by Carolina, this pick was originally the Rangers but sent it over in the Eric Staal trade. Carolina has one of the deepest defensive cores in the NHL in terms of prospects. Now with one ready to make the jump to the club next year, why not fill that void with another in Markus Phillips.

Mason Shaw

C/LW, Medicine Hat (WHL)

The Ducks only had a single pick in the first round and with it, we selected left winger Maxime Comtois. So selecting Mason Shaw down the middle is great, also because he's a highly talented player who will eventually play with someone like Comtois.19

Jake Oettinger

G, Boston Univ. (NCAA)

Originally a pick of the Penguins, the Hurricanes acquired it when they moved Ron Hainsey. With the Hurricanes second pick in the second round, we have them selecting college star goaltender Jake Oettinger. This is a piece the Canes desperately need as they don't have many goaltending prospects as it is.18

Evan Barratt

C, USA NTDP (USHL)

In the first round, we had the St. Louis Blues selecting high scoring winger Kailer Yamamoto. So who would suit the team well after that selection? Someone down the middle who can mesh with him and no one better for the spot than USHL star Evan Barratt.17

Morgan Frost

C, Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)

A pick that belonged to the Bruins before the Lee Stempniak deal, New Jersey now owns it. And with their second pick in the second round, we have the Devils selecting depth scorer Morgan Frost who has put up a solid 62 point season in his second year with Sault Ste. Marie.16

Marcus Davidsson

C, Djurgardens (SHL)

With Nashville's only second round pick, we have them selecting center Marcus Davidsson who put up 10 points in nine games for the Djurgardens IF J20 team before he spent 45 games with the Djurgardens IF pro team putting up nine points.

Ukko Pekka Luukkonen

G, HPK (SM Jr. Liiga)

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is a massive goalie for his age, standing at 6'4 ad weighing over 195 pounds, he's probably the next best netminder besides Michael Dipietro. And with no one really left in the Islanders pool of goalies besides Christopher Gibson, he would be a perfect selection for them.14

Joni Ikonen

C, Frolunda (SWE U-20)

In the first round, we had the Lightning selecting Juuso Valimaki for depth on the backend. This time around, we have them selecting Joni Ikonen for more depth down the middle since they are going to need it.13

Morgan Geekie

C, Tri-City (WHL)

Morgan Geekie is fresh off a 90 point season this year in the WHL and is poised as a very underrated center. What's great about him is he can also play wing, which makes him a great choice for the Kings since they need someone to fill that role in the future.12

Jonah Gadjovich

LW, Owen Sound (OHL)

With Jordan Staal, Victor Rask and the first round selection Lias Andersson down the middle, we have the Canes selecting left winger Jonah Gadjovich, a player who can grow with Andersson, possibly on the same line.11

Jason Robertson

LW, Kingston (OHL)

The Coyotes dealt away former Kingston Frontenac Lawson Crouse this past season, now why not go out and fill that void with another Frontenac in Jason Robertson who is someone that's much better than Crouse.

Henri Jokiharju

D, Portland (WHL)

In the first round, the Flyers selected center Michael Rasmussen to help down the middle. Now, why not go out and select Henri Jokiharju to help on the backend with Shayne Gostisbehere and Ivan Provorov.9

Grant Mismash

LW/C, USA NTDP (USHL)

With talented center Martin Necas being selected in the first round, this leaves a winger just as talented in the second round to help compliment him. So why not choose Grant Mishmash, oh and he can also play wing or center.8

Jaret Anderson-Dolan

C, Spokane (WHL)

Cale Makar was chosen in the first round by the Jets to help bolster their defensive prospects. So what would be the best course of action going into the second? Adding a solid center so they can have one of the best youth groups in the NHL.7

Isaac Ratcliffe

LW, Guelph (OHL)

The Guelph Storm are having a tremendous year, and so is Isaac Ratcliffe. With Casey Mittelstadt being chosen in the first round to help down the middle since the Wings need it, Ratcliffe would be a perfect replacement for Tomas Jurco.6

Aleksei Heponiemi

C, Swift Current (WHL)

In the first round, we had Vancouver taking Eeli Tolvanen to help for when Daniel Sedin leaves. So what happens when Henrik Sedin leaves? You make sure you have a solid center to come in and play, And Aleksei Heponiemi is that guy.

Josh Norris

C, USA NTDP (USHL)

Arizona has a plethora of offensive talent, especially prospects. And with Gabe Vilardi being chosen in the first round and possessing the ability to come in and play right away, this gives someone like Josh Norris one more year in the NCAA before giving the Coyotes four very solid centers.4

Conor Timmins

D, Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)

Coming off a 61 point season in the OHL, as a defenseman, Conor Timmins is highly skilled. And with the Aves selecting Nico Hischier in the first round to help up front, Timmins would be perfect to help on the backend.3

Alexei Lipanov

C, Balashikha (MHL)

With Owen Tippett being chosen in the first round to play with teammate Michael McLeod, the Devils are going to need another center in the pool who can cause some damage and play with someone like Pavel Zacha. So why shouldn't they go out and take someone like Alexei Lipanov who is an elite level player.2

Pierre-Olivier Joseph

D, Charlottetown (QMJHL)

In the first round Vegas selected cornerstone franchise center Nolan Patrick, now what do you do when you have your corner piece up front? You go and get one for the backend, and Pierre-Olivier Joseph is one of those guys.Next: NHL Entry Draft: First Round Mock Draft and Analysis.1

Michael Dipietro

G, Windsor (OHL)

Now all of these teams were randomized as I stated from the first round mock, but if these picks were to play out like this, I strongly believe these are the best choices per team. I will have a NEW first round mock for you in a few days!
