A Rookie will Lead them
23 year old Jimmy Vesey, the Hobey Baker Award winner and the center of an exciting whirlwind off-season Free Agent Frenzy, has fit in on Broadway very well. Vesey’s quick release and Hockey smarts have enabled him to get off to a blazing start to his rookie season. 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points in his first 10 games as a pro, have brought forth whispers of the Calder Trophy among the Garden faithful.
Grabbing the Spotlight
Michael Grabner, former Islander and Maple Leaf, is adding a deft scoring touch to his blazing speed and PK work. Coming off a Hat Trick Sunday against the Lightning, Michael has scored his 6th goal of the season against the Edmonton Oilers. He finds himself in a three-way tie for the lead on the team.
Monster Nash is Back
Rick Nash has brought back his Monster Nash persona on some of his goals, as he seems to be in that power forward mode 2 years ago when he scored 42 goals. His game winning goal tonight was of such a variety. Derek Stepan’s shot was on net and saved by Cam Talbot, but the rebound was gobbled up by Nash and he powered it into the net for goal number 6 and a 4-3 Ranger lead.
The Hottest of the Hot
Michael Grabner, Kevin Hayes and JT Miller have been the best offensive line on the hottest offensive team these past four games. Tonight against the Edmonton Oilers, the line no one wants to face took the game over once again. Both Miller and Grabner had a goal and an assist each and Hayes added a goal and 2 assists. Kevin also won the face-off deep in the Ranger end and got it to Nick Holden who found JT, who then banked it off the boards and saw the puck glide into the empty net to seal the game at 5-3.
In the past four games; against Carolina, Tampa Bay, St. Louis and Edmonton: the terrific trio have scored 10 goals, dished out 13 assists and have tallied 23 points. Talk about production. Overall; Grabner has 6 goals and 2 assists for 8 points; Hayes has 4 goals and 6 assists for 10 points and Miller has 4 goals and 8 assists for 12 points. That is 14 goals, 16 assists for a whooping total of 30 points in 11 games.
