It has been a challenging start to the season for the New York Islanders. After arguably their worst loss of the season, the Islanders came out with a lot of fire against the Oilers. It took the Islanders just 13 seconds to score the first goal of the game, as it quickly got the Barclays Center loud.
The Islanders would continue their strong start with another goal early in the first period, which game them a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, that lead disappeared almost as quick as it came for the Islanders.
In the second period, the Islanders would once again regain the lead, however, a power-play goal late in the period tied it up. In the third period, neither team was able to score despite some good chances, and the game went into overtime. During overtime, there were some amazing saves made by both goalies to send the game into a shootout.
In the shootout, it was Mark Letestu who beat Jaroslav Halak on the Oilers’ third try for the win.
Three Stars:
Dennis Seidenberg, Islanders — It has been a great start to the season for Dennis Seidenberg, and that continued on Saturday with a two-assist game.
Patrick Maroon, Oilers — It was a great game for Patrick Maroon of the Oilers. In addition to a power-play goal, Maroon also tallied an assist for his team on Saturday.
Matthew Benning, Oilers — On the first two goals of the game for the Oilers, the assists went to Matthew Benning.
