New York Islanders Team Canada: Game Time, Channel, and more
New York Islanders captain John Tavares takes to the ice against the team that was designed to beat Canada, Team USA.
It’s the firs time these two nemeses face each other in the World Cup of Hockey. The narrative was unfortunately set by comments made from USA coach John Tortorella.
Tortorella is the topic of the day after saying, then doubling-down on his stance to bench any play who would have the audacity to exercise their right to protest.
It’s a shame that the pre-game talk is overtaken by a pro-active political ideological utterance. Let’s be honest, hockey players weren’t voted most likely to protest social injustice in the school of professional athletes.
What about the hockey though? These two teams absolutely loath each other. Canada usually sticks it to the US in these types of competitions (I choose to forget 1996), and the US can’t stand it.
As a Canadian I get it. We can be pretty annoying when we win a gold medal in both the men and women’s game in back-to-back Olympics. We just like to bring it up over-and-over again.
But this time around Team USA was built with one goal in mind: beat Team Canada. It’s a noble goal, and kinda flattering. Canadians aren’t know for having big egos, but they better make the doorways three sizes bigger at the Canadian Tire Centre to make way for Canadian egos.
Let’s just hope for the US’s sake that they don’t use up that “Beat Canada” card in the pre-tournament.
