New York Islanders Lose To Habs On A Late Goal (Highlights)
The New York Islanders showed fight, but were unable to complete the comeback effort tonight against the Montreal Canadians, who won by a score of 3-2.
It was another slow start for the New York Islanders, but luckily the Habs didn’t get many offensive chances either. Through one period the Islanders were leading in shots 8-6 but the game was scoreless.
That all changed in the second period. Just three minutes into the second period Paul Byron got Montreal on the board and broke the scoreless tie.
It would take the Islanders twelve minutes to answer back on a power play goal by the captain John Tavares.

A power play goal? That was only the Isles second power play goal of the season, an aspect of their game that they have struggled with. The score would remain 1-1 after two, but the Isles were pretty lucky.

It was Thomas Greiss who was bailing out the Isles as he stopped chance after chance for the Canadians. While the Isles did not have the same level of opportunities. They were lucky they weren’t down by at least two goals, instead of entering the third tied.
Phillip Danault gave Montreal the lead again when he beat Greiss. It was only short lived as the Isles continued the trend of offense from defenseman, Dennis Seidenberg tied up the game just three minutes later.

Seidenberg’s game tying goal was also short lived, as the newly acquired Shea Weber gave the Habs the lead yet again with his power play goal. That would end up being the difference maker in this one.
Things always seem to fall back to the median, but it was opposite night for the Isles at the Barclays Center. They had success on the power play, but the league leading penalty kill failed in crunch time, which was unexpected.
Another talking point was Anthony Beauvillier on the top line. He replaced the struggling Andrew Ladd. The Cappy Carousel is already starting up, and no one is safe.
