New York Islanders Looking for A Stand Alone President

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Reports have come out that New York Islanders Ownership have been searching for a President of Hockey Operations since the summer. Good news for some, bad news for other. Garth.

As some of you already know, Garth Snow currently occupies the role of General Manager as well as President of Hockey Operations. He’s actually occupied the position since he was hired back in 2006.

But, it seems Isles tandem ownership of John Ledecky and Scott Malkin are looking to bring in someone to occupy that Presidential chair and liberate Garth of one of his titles.

It’s kind of outstanding that it’s taken this long to get someone into that position. But I suppose when the team in question is the New York Islanders, cost is very important. So, if you can get a guy to occupy two high paying positions it makes financial sense.

With the Barclays deal the Islanders are in a better financial position, so it’s time to get that position filled! But what does that mean for the franchise, and those currently employed?

    Big Changes

Regardless of who the duo of Ledecky and Malkin actually appoint, Islanders staff need to be on notice especially the likes of the aforementioned Garth Snow and coach Jack Capuano. Both are high profile and highly visible positions, and both have been there for ten and six years respectively.

This new President of Hockey Ops will want to put his stamp on the team, and will likely get the license to do so from ownership. Remember, Ledecky and Malkin didn’t hire either Snow or Capuano.

Member what happened in Toronto when they recently named their new President of Hockey Ops? It was Donald Trump on a wrecking ball firing anyone on his way through the halls of the Air Canada Center. Maybe the new prez comes in and does the same.

This should come as a good sign for fans. Ownership are making this team into a legitimate NHL franchise. No longer trying to cut corners to save a few dollars.
