New York Islanders Daily: Shane Prince Impresses In First Game Back

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Shane Prince played the first two games of the season for the New York Islanders, but looked to be slowed by injuries. He looked good in his first game back last night.

Shane Prince was a big part of both New York Islanders goals in last night’s loss. He replaced Mathew Barzal in the lineup, as the kid sat for the 6th time in 8 games.

On the first goal by Travis Hamonic, Prince notched an assist. He carried the puck into the offensive zone and gave a nice pass to Hamonic who was able to find the back of the net. It was a big play to get the game tied up.

The Isles found themselves down again in the third period. This time Prince was in the right place at the right times as a weird bounce came from behind the net and he was in perfect position to bury the puck.

With Mathew Barzal’s growing pains it’s safe to say that Prince will continue to be in the lineup. Unfortunately it looks like Barzal will be heading to Seattle sooner rather than later.

The other rookie Anthony Beauvillier has continued to impress, as he has even seen time with John Tavares on the top line. There’s no way he’s going anywhere, so Barzal seems like the clear odd man out.

Some highlights from the game last night. The Islanders played a good second period but seemed to lose momentum in the third period for their second straight loss.

    Other Stuff

It’s probably time for the Islanders three goalie experiment to end (SNY)

Yes, it is definitely time for the Islanders to stop wasting a roster spot. Through eight games J.F. Berube has yet to start one. I think I know a team in Los Angeles that could use a goaltender.

Travis Hamonic explodes out of slump (CBS Sports)

Hamonic scored a goal and added an assist with five shots on net and five blocked shots during Thursday’s loss to the Penguins. He’s gotten out to a slow start but seemed to turn it around last night.
