New York Islanders Daily: Replacing Key Losses

When the Islanders lost Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo and Matt Martin in free agency it became clear the Islanders would have a lot of work to do to replace those guys. As Arthur Staple writes, it’s going to be a big job.
The Islanders went a more veteran route signing Andrew Ladd, Jason Chimera and P.A. Parenteau. Many questioned if the Islanders did enough to improve.
Parenteau looks like the candidate to replace Okposo. He’ll most likely be on the top line. The most talented candidate is prospect Josh Ho-Sang but he will most likely start the year in Bridgeport, as he has little pro experience.

The Islanders brought in Chimera to replace Martin. He will be a quicker and more offensive version of Martin despite being older. The Islanders will most likely shy away from their big hit numbers with Martin gone, and that’s okay.
Replacing Nielsen might be the toughest. He played well both offensively and defensively and will be missed on the penalty kill. Hopefully Ladd will be able to help out with that.
I wouldn’t mind Mathew Barzal getting a chance too. He’s a playmaker like Frans and can also play pretty well defensively.
