Montreal goalie having fun in most tense moments
NHL goalies need to be both comfortable and calm in big moments for their teams, and Carey Price proved he is both in Montreal's Game 6 win over the Senators Sunday. Price came up big for the Canadiens, stopping all 43 shots he faced including a barrage of chances for the Senators in the final few minutes.
"That’s what makes it fun," Price told the Montreal Gazette after the game. "Those are the situations you want to be in, those are the things you dream about as a kid."
Thanks to Price's performance, the Canadiens are one step closer to achieving their Stanley Cup dreams, as they knocked Ottawa out of the playoffs despite blowing their previous two opportunities to do so. Ottawa was a team of destiny in March, making up a 14-point gap in the standings to qualify for the playoffs. So when the Senators won two consecutive games in the series after initially falling into a 3-0 series deficit against the Canadiens, many were wondering if Ottawa was about to pull off yet another improbable comeback.
But Carey Price had not lost four consecutive games all season, and Price told the Gazette he was not concerned Sunday night about the Senators two prior wins.
"The last game was irrelevant,” Price said to the Gazette. “It came down to being prepared to for this game."
Montreal has a few days off before they have to prepare for their next games, as the Canadiens are waiting until the end of the Tampa Bay/Detroit series to determine their second-round opponent.
