Mike Babcock: 'This hope thing's not much for me'
The Leafs are in the midst of what will be a long-term rebuild, but that does not mean coach Mike Babcock is going to sit around twiddling his thumbs until a few years pass. Babcock made an appearance on Hockey Central at Noon on Thursday, and he gave a harsh review of his team's play early on.
Toronto was coming off a 2-1 shootout loss to the Sabres, and Babcock said the number of turnovers his team made in the game was unacceptable. He insisted on the team's need for more determination and responsibility with the puck.
"This hope thing’s not much for me," Mike Babcock said on the show. "Keep getting better, keep getting better, and we’ll get over the hump here. But belief is a big part of it."
The Leafs sit at the bottom of the Atlantic Division as of Friday morning with a 1-3-2 record. They have the fourth-worst record in the league ahead of the Blue Jackets, Flames and Ducks.
