Lightning D Paul Ranger granted personal leave

Published Oct. 27, 2009 2:04 a.m. ET

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Paul Ranger has left the team to handle a personal matter. The team granted Ranger an indefinite leave of absence Monday, saying the player will return "as soon as he is able." Ranger missed last Saturday's game against Buffalo for a personal reason. The team did not release any more information. Lightning general manager Brian Lawton said Ranger requested a personal leave. It was granted following discussions within the organization and further talks with the player. Ranger has one goal and an assist in eight games this season.
