Lightning affiliate invites Donald Trump to coach hockey team
It's hard to escape Donald Trump. The business tycoon's presidential campaign has him all over the news and all over the country, speaking to growing crowds while promising to make America great again.
As such, Trump likely receives interesting invitations constantly, but the Tampa Bay Lightning's AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, might have the most interesting proposition for Trump yet: They want Trump to coach their hockey team.
That's right. Syracuse CFO Vance Lederman issued a video challenge Wednesday to Trump, saying that Lederman does not understand why Trump is running for president while claiming that perhaps if Trump can prove he can coach the Crunch, it will prove Trump is able to do anything and is therefore capable of running the country.
"You running for president is like me, this Brooklyn boy right here, being a professional hockey coach," Lederman said. "So Donald, here's what I'm going to do. I have an invite for you. You're a big man. You want to be for all the people. I invite you to come up to Syracuse to learn how to be a professional hockey coach. You think you can do that? Because you know if you don't do a good job, you're fired."
The Crunch are coming off a strong season that saw them finish second in their division. Syracuse ultimately lost to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the first round of the 2015 playoffs. Trump's background in sports lies mainly as an owner of golf courses and a team in the now-defunct United States Football League team.
