Lecavalier out with upper body injury

Published Feb. 21, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier will be out indefinitely with an unspecified upper body injury, the team announced Tuesday.

Lecavalier, who has 21 goals and 46 points in 58 games this season, was injured during Saturday's 2-1 win over Washington.

The team refused to give details on Lecavalier's injury, but the Tampa Bay Times reported he was at the arena Tuesday morning wearing a soft cast on his right hand and wrist.

An MRI revealed the extent of the injury Monday, with Lecavalier telling the paper the test "showed no gray areas."

"It's real disappointing," the 31-year-old Lecavalier said. "We're making a push and we're playing well. It's too bad I can't help my teammates."

The Lightning are six points out of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot, and seven points out of first place in the Southeast Division.
