Leafs, Scrivens agree to one-year deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed free-agent goaltender Ben Scrivens to a one-year entry level contract Wednesday.

Scrivens, 23, was a finalist for the 2010 Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the NCAA's top player. He was also a first-team all-American with Cornell University and won the ECAC Hockey Ken Dryden Award as the league's top goaltender.

In 34 games with Cornell, Scrivens led the NCAA in shutouts (seven), save percentage (.934) and was tied for the lead in goals-against average (1.87). He also recorded the third-longest shutout streak in NCAA history, going 267 minutes, 11 seconds without allowing a goal.

The move comes after the Leafs signed free-agent Finnish goalie Jussi Rynnas on Friday.
