KHL fans throw hats onto ice after hat trick, get arrested
Some KHL fans might think twice about celebrating a hat trick in the future.
According to Yahoo! Sports' Puck Daddy blog, three fans and a team employee were arrested during Tuesday's game between Sibir and Ak Bar after they tossed their caps onto the ice following a Jarno Koskiranta hat trick.
Apparently the police working the game weren't exactly up to speed on hockey traditions, and they arrested the hat-less Sibir fans because they were "disrupting the peace in public places" (skip to the 5:20 mark to see the hats on the ice).
"Apparently, in Novosibirsk have not had a hat-trick, and the police was not used to such a reaction of fans," Sibir general manager Cyril Fastovsky said, via SovSport, translated by Puck Daddy. "We will do everything possible to continue this does not happen again."
Nothing says danger like a hat on the ice.
