Ken Hitchcock to coach Canada at hockey worlds

Published Apr. 11, 2011 12:18 p.m. ET

Ken Hitchcock will be coaching Canada's team at this month's hockey world championships.

This will be Hitchcock's first coaching job since he was fired by the Columbus Blue Jackets in February 2010. He was an assistant on Mike Babcock's Olympic staff in Vancouver.

Hitchcock has worked with seven national teams for Canada, including the 2008 world championship squad that won the silver medal in Quebec City.

Canada last won the gold medal in the worlds in 2007. It finished seventh last year in Germany, the country's worst showing since 1992. Canada open against Belarus on April 29 in Kosice, Slovakia.
